Our Philosophy

We are passionate about using art to reconnect children with nature. Making art in, with and about nature encourages children to explore, fosters environmental awareness and teaches mindfulness in an increasingly busy and tech-based world. Art and nature have been found to improve attention deficit difficulties and to boost self-discipline and emotional and physical wellbeing. Creating art with others cultivates imaginations and improves confidence and social skills. Most of all, though, it’s just about having great fun, creating amazing artwork and making precious childhood memories.

The principles of Getting It Right for Every Child, The Curriculum for Excellence and Building the Ambition are at the heart of everything we do, and our art activities are inspired by The Woodland Trust and Learning Through Landscapes pedagogy.

We are very interested in using art and nature to combat adverse childhood experiences and to work with children with additional support needs.  Please get in touch for further details of our current projects or to discuss possible future collaborations.

Our Team

Founder & Instructor

Having started my career in publishing I then

set up and led a large design team for a multinational in the private sector. Latterly, I have been involved in early years and primary school education while working as an artist. Recent projects include setting up an outdoor wild play area in the woods to get children back in touch with the wellbeing benefits of free play in nature. I have also previously worked as part of a ground-breaking team in learning support to help children who had  learning difficulties and complex behaviour and emotional needs to realise their potential.

My visual art encompasses photography, sculpture, ceramics and video. I have exhibited in various galleries and sell prints of my work commercially. Some of my film footage has been used in a music video for Scottish Album of the Year Award Winner Kathryn Joseph and I currently have a little art film on board NASA’s Osiris-Rex spacecraft, which is on a mission to collect a sample of asteroid Bennu. Some of my artwork can be seen here.

I have Early Years Practice and Outdoor Nurture in Nature qualifications and have also completed outdoor fire training with ELC countryside rangers. In addition, I am SSSC registered, have Child Protection and Paediatric First Aid certificates and I am a PVG Scheme member.

PhD Student

For the Little Hippies' Summer Art Camps there will be a PhD student joining us who has previously worked at a renowned residential arts camp in New York and also with children in young offenders' institutions in Cape Town.

She has an International Child Protection Certificate and is a PVG Scheme member for

both children and vulnerable adults.

Student Placements

Throughout the year several students will be helping with our arts activities. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved in any of our projects. New skills and ideas are always welcome.
